Humanities Foundation® will sponsor a free “Senior Health and Wellness Day”

CHARLESTON, S.C. –Charleston-based nonprofit organization Humanities Foundation® will sponsor a free “Senior Health and Wellness Day” June 24 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at its new affordable senior living housing community, Laurel Hill Apartments in the Beaufort area. The event is open to the public and will feature information and tours as well as tips for living healthy senior lifestyles. Food and beverages will be served alongside free screenings for blood pressure and diabetes, tips for healthy eating and staying active, in addition to giveaways and prizes. Guest can even have a “cruise vacation” photo taken in front of the SS Laurel Hill.

Located at 1640 Ribaut Road in Port Royal, S.C. (near Beaufort), Laurel Hill is a new 72-unit apartment development for seniors ages 62 and over featuring one and two-bedroom units equipped with elevators, dishwasher, microwave, garbage disposal, patio or balcony, ceiling fans and a washer/dryer hookup. One-bedroom apartments are 686 square feet are $495 per month and two-bedroom apartments are 902 square feet are $595 per month. Rent includes water, sewer, garbage pick-up and pest control. Since its founding in 1992, Humanities Foundation® has been a leader in addressing the affordable housing crisis. In addition to its primary mission to develop affordable housing units, it also provides a range of services for residents, and in the community, that serve to alleviate problems associated with homelessness and affordable housing. The foundation has developed over 600 rental units of affordable housing – with another 156 units under construction and 72 units in pre-development - providing homes for more than 850 low-to-moderate-income families, including those with special needs such as the disabled, single mothers and senior citizens.
