Shopping spree
By Caroline Fossi
Daniel Island's shopping and dining scene is poised to expand, with new retail space in the works in the downtown area.
Charleston real estate company James Doran Co. plans to build three new brick structures totaling about 30,000 square feet in its Downtown Daniel Island development, a 10-acre mixed-use town center. Pending final permits, construction is expected to start this summer and wrap up in about eight months.
Confirmed tenants in the new buildings include Carolina First bank and Ali Baba, an upscale Mediterranean restaurant. A neighborhood-style restaurant and bar is in negotiations for space.
Located at Seven Farms Drive and Island Park Drive, downtown Daniel Island is home to a Publix supermarket, a Subway sandwich shop, Daniel Island Wine & Spirits and Dragon Palace restaurant, among other tenants. The development is expected to be complete by mid-2008.
