The Poinsette Apartments: Upcoming Affordable Housing Development
The Poinsette Apartments
Continuing the Work on the Eastside
In the historic Eastside neighborhood of Charleston, the Humanities Foundation and James Doran Company are gearing up for a pivotal project—the Poinsette. Named in honor of Septima "Poinsette" Clark, a luminary of the Civil Rights movement and a cherished daughter of South Carolina, this development aims to serve as a beacon of her legacy.
Positioned on a parcel of land once part of the old Cooper River bridge parcel, the Poinsette stands as a testament to vision and resilience. This project will materialize as an 88-unit senior affordable housing community, designed to celebrate the wisdom and strength that comes with age, breaking down the traditional barriers to housing.
At the core of this initiative is a spirit of collaboration, a hallmark of our approach to enriching community life. A significant partnership with the City of Charleston has allowed for a strategic property exchange, accomplishing dual objectives. The lands acquired through this exchange are designated for stormwater drainage improvements, a vital contribution to Charleston's comprehensive flood mitigation strategies and a step forward in safeguarding the Eastside's future.
